Crestwood celebrates 50th anniversary of first congregational meeting with 'virtual' meeting on Super Bowl Sunday |
|||
Crestwood's first congregational meeting was held on Sunday, February 1, 1959 -- just one week after the church was born. (See the chapters titled "Rising Early" and "Standing Up" in the story of Crestwood's birth.)
They didn't have the Super Bowl in 1959 -- but they also didn't have the Internet!
Fifty years later -- on the afternoon of Sunday, February 1, 2009 -- members of Crestwood participated in a "virtual" meeting of the congregation by visiting this site.
There was much on the agenda in 1959, including the selection of a nominating committee and a "pulpit committee."
But fifty years later (one week after the launch of Crestwood's 50th anniversary celebration), the only item on the agenda was fellowship. Many members were eager to see some of the pictures that were taken by Mark Landis during the special events on January 25th.
This year was also different because some members of the congregation were getting ready for Super Bowl parties in the evening. But they were able to participate in the "virtual" meeting by visiting this site from the comfort of their homes throughout the afternoon. How the world has changed in fifty years!
I extend my thanks to everyone who visited. Come back often, for more news about Crestwood's 50th Anniversary Celebration!
